As the picture above shown is the current rate with different size of wires. A small wires need small amount of current. A larger current need big wire. So this is why we choose a right wire with size to install electrical device. Lets look at the loads to fix right size of wire.
1) 1.0MM 1.5MM
Loads like light bulbs are need 1.5MM wire. because this wire carries small amount of current to power light bulbs.
2) 2.0MM-2.5MM-3.0MM
Sockets with install MCB with amperage 16A-20A normally used 2.5MM wires.This wire need a amperage about 13A-16A to power loads like table fan, blender and so on.
3) 4.0MM-8.0MM
Loads like air compressor,air conditioner, drilling machine needs a large amount of current. So sockets with install MCB 32A to above need to wired 4.0MM to 8.0MM.
16.0MM wire is a SWA cable (Steel Wire Armour) from a switch board to reach your home to power you home. In that SWA cable has 16.0MM wire size of three phase system. This wire connected to cut out to the (KiloWatt Hour meter) kWh meter. IN other way technician you 8.0MM wire to install the both appliance. This appliance need large amount current,so this size of wire is support it.
