Electrical Power and Cost of electrical energy

In every electrical application contain power,like in light bulb,ceiling fans, electric motor and so on. Power makes the electrical device works in right condition. A great power comes with great responsibilities. But in electrical terms, a great power comes with more electrical bill. Yes absolutely If more power are used in electrical application.it can increase your house electrical bills. So now we look out about power and Cost of electrical energy.

Generally power 'P' is the amount of energy transferred in 1 second 'S' .so the formula will be like this

The unit for power is Watt (W). In electrical appliance 1 Watt is the power which can produce a total energy of 1Js-1.For an electrical motor, 1 hp is 745.7 W. to calculate the value for electrical power it can be derive as P = VxI

 This triangle will help you to calculate the value of power easily. Lets see some examples.

A electric motor label 12V and 15W. find the value of current and resistance.

1) Value of current : I= P/V
                                I=15/12
                                   1.25A
2) Value of resistance : For value of resistance, you need to use Ohms law.
                                     R = V/I
                                     R=  12/1.25
                                            9.6 Ω
Easy right. So lets figure it out about the cost of the electrical energy. The unit used to calculate the cost of electrical energy is kilowatt-hour (KWh). Every house have a meter that calculate the cost of energy consumption in your house. 1 KWh is the total energy consumed by an electrical appliance of power 1 Kw in 1 hour. so :

1 KWh X 1hour
1000Js-1 X 3600s
= 3.6 x10^6 J

To calculate the energy consumption, this formula are used Energy= Power X Time

For example a television set of power 700W is switched on for 6 hours a day. Calculate the cost of electrical energy.

To calculate the cost of electrical energy you need to change 700W into KWh. So :
700/1000 = 0.7 KWh

Cost of electrical energy : Energy = Power X Time
                                                          0.7KWh X 6h
                                                          = 4.2KWh.
So easy right. This is how your house electrical cost are calculate it. To reduce the cost of electrical bill you need to use low powered electrical appliance like 15W light bulb or fluorescent light.
